Make-up Blooper

My friend Jen had a make-up makeover yesterday.  I obviously am in need of one.

Last night after Life Group, I needed to run into Michael's very quickly to pick up just one item.  Since I've had a virus/cold, my lips have been quite dry and I am addicted to lip balm anyway.  I rummaged around in my bag (packed with Bible, notebook, planner, billions of used kleenex, throat drops, throat drop wrappers, etc. etc. etc.) and voila, found the lip balm.  I quickly smeared it on, ran inside, picked up my kneadable eraser, payed for it and got back in the car.  Because I am addicted to lip balm, I thought I'd smear on a bit more for the short trek home.  This time, I actually looked at the tube before I placed it to my lips.  It was concealer.  I had totally erased my lips.  And been seen in public with no lips.

Where'd she go?

Well, that was a nice break, wasn't it?  What on earth happened to me, you ask?    First, of all, I gradually quit eating quite so healthily.  And, being the all or nothing gal that I am, I really has a hard time with that.  Of course, life got busy, etc., blah, blah, blah and next thing you know, it's been a decade later (or at least it felt like that long...)

I realized that I need to give myself permission to expand the ol' blog in scope so that I don't feel like I have nothing to write about if I am not totally pristine in my eating.

I also realized that I am not totally cracked over the name of the ol' blog.  If you would like to help me tweak that, feel free!

So, in between coughing fits, here I am.  (The flu bug has been in our house for over 2 weeks now)  Yesterday, I found myself craving vegetables so I whipped up a two egg omelet with about 1/4 cup monterey jack cheese, and a lightly sauteed 3/4 cup mixture of yellow bell pepper, sweet onion, broccoli, fresh basil and tomato.  It was so good - being sick has brought a lovely weight loss of several pounds - since I haven't eat very much lately, my body was craving the good stuff!

What movie was it where one of the main characters crowed she was "just a stomach flu away" from her goal weight?

Victory Over the Fending Machine

Today's food list:  2 oz pretzels  (was at the car repair place and had not eaten breakfast since I thought it was just going to be a few minutes.  After I realized it was going to be a 2 1/2 hour wait, I went to peruse the offerings from the vending machine.  I eyed the iced honey bun, the crumb donuts and yes, even the poptart, but chose pretzels instead - yippee for me!), cheeseburger, 2 rice cakes, about 20 small crackers with hummus, large salad, 1/4 cup potato salad, about 3/4 cup chili with crackers, about 8 strawberries with some sugar

Chemicals are everywhere!

Today's food list:  3/4 cup organic granola, about 30 grapes, chipotle chicken burrito bowl, 2 rice cakes, 8 small pretzel nuggets, chicken packet (chicken salad mixture in a crescent roll dough, 1/2 cup carrots, 1/2 cup baked mashed potatoes

I bought groceries yesterday at Wegmans and spent a bunch of time reading labels.  There are lots of things that I've always thought to be healthy (Wheat Thins, anyone?), tortillas, etc. that are just a bunch of chemicals.  Exactly what is Xanthum Gum anyway?

I'm back!

Today's food list:  hard boiled egg, turkey and provolone on white bread (was out of wheat bread - the turkey was from a turkey I roasted over the weekend) about 30 grapes, salad with grilled chicken, 2 rice cakes

I have been scarce on the blog for the past week - eating was not totally out of control, but certainly not "clean".  Why?  Some good 'ole fashioned emotional eating!  I think last week was probably one of the most stressful of my life.  Wish I was exaggerating, but nope, I'm not.  But, the issues that caused the stress won't be going away any time soon, so, I will have to eat healthy as I walk through hard stuff.  And, my guess is that eating well when stressed is probably a good thing for one's health.  Duh.

I have found another blogger who's blog has been quite helpful.  Check out her post about how to shop for real food! http://www.musingsofahousewife.com/2010/02/whole-foods-from-the-conventional-grocery-store.html

Today's food list:  one slice whole grain bread (made into cinnamon toast), small popcorn at the movie (Shutter Island - great movie, but makes you wonder if YOU are insane by the end!), Red Lobster: one biscuit, caesar salad, about 1/3 of my tilapia with lobster on top, about 3/4 baked potato, about 1/4 cup broccoli

I can tell I haven't eaten as many fruits and veggies today as usual.  I ran out of my grape stash!  This week has the potential to be busy and very stressful.  I need to make wise choices in light of that kind of week.

Oh, and one more thing.  I keep getting people telling me that they are reading, but alas, you aren't commenting!  I'd love to hear your thoughts and I'd love to even just know you are reading - that provides accountability for me!!

Today's food list:  (Keeping in mind that I had a migraine earlier in the day, significantly affecting my appetite) About 25 grapes, one small hamburger on whole wheat bun, about 12 potato chips, one banana with peanut butter

My grocery cart looks very different these days!  One of the things that I am changing is the type of oils that we use.  I am eliminating the yellow seed oils (corn, canola, etc.)  Seems most things can use either olive oil or coconut oil (for baking).  I haven't tried the coconut oil yet, I'll have to do that and share my results.  Anybody out there tried it?
